When Soloman was a young man he was tasked with being king. (after King David died)
Aware of the huge task ahead of him - ruling a large, complicated kingdom.
One night, God appeared to Soloman in dream.
In the Dream, God said to Soloman: “Ask for whatever you want me to give you”
A blank check from God - Soloman could have asked for anything.
Massive power
Endless riches
Victory over his enemies
A long, pain-free life
But instead, Soloman replied humbly:
"I am only a little child and do not know how to carry out my duties. So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong."
(1 Kings 3:7–9)
In retrospect Soloman asked for wisdom - not wealth, not fame, not revenge, but the ability to rule well and fairly.
Character over comfort.
God willing.
